Still Webbing...
I spent quite a bit of time yesterday searching for information on medicinal and alternative methods for dealing with the pain of labor and delivery. Those are the two key concepts that I found gave the most useful information when searching. I was amazed at how many I actually had heard of, but lack the details. Some of the information it too detailed and I will have to continue searching or ask my OB for clarification, but it is neat to learn about. I think I am most intrigued by the reasons WHY the different methods assist with controlling the pain -- covering it up (as with drugs) or coping with it (as with breathing). Most seem to fit into one of those categories.

Hi January,
ReplyDeleteI'm testing with comments... so who knows if this will work.
Being a guy, I was still interested in your topic. Not because it's something I want to know more about, but it's something I learned a lot about as my wife was in her pregnancy last year.
One piece of advice that I think was really helpful and should have been listened to by me and my wife was this: Don't listen to the "war stories." Apparently, women tend to build that stuff up in their heads afterward. We heard some big ones, and some of them really got to my wife. But her experience was unique as I'm sure all birts are, and Jesus seemed to be right when he said (John 16:21):A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.
Also, the classes that you can take beforehand are really helpful too. We went to a Lamaze class, but they informed us of the other methods too (specifically the methods available at our hospital).
Congratulations on your little blessing.

He is right. You will hear stories from everyone, even if you didn't ask for them. Trust in yourself, if nothing else do that!
ReplyDeleteAnd remember your husband is there for support. Use him!! My husband was a life saver. I remember lots of walking and he was with me every step of the way. It was so wonderful for us. We bonded again during that time and I would not trade that for anything.
I am interested to hear what you found out about the alternative methods. It will be interesting to see if anything has changed in 3.5 years.

I did find a site, although it does not directly talk about medications I thought it may help link to something else.
