Upon my initial search for different methods for controlling pain during childbirth, I was bombarded with information that was WAY over my head. I was, however, able to make a small list of words that I need to further research.
analgesic medication, TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), Lamaze, acupuncture, and music
Some of these I have prior knowledge of, but others are either brand new to me or new in the realm of childbirth. I will keep you posted on what I find out!!

My best friend from college was looking into using TENS. Her OB was not very enthusiastic about it. He didn't seem to be very comfortable with that technology. I think she said that it is very popular in Europe because she was going to have a friend in Scotland buy one and send it to her. Her baby was huge, so she ended up with a scheduled C-Section and didn't get to try the TENS. I thought it sounded very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI have no chidlren myself but have been talking to several girlfriends who do since someday soon I would like to start a family. One of my friends is a PICU nurse and has many stories. Of all that I have heard from her, the traditional, non drug, birthing methods seem to be the least complicated. Any method with "electrical" in the title makes me nervous.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever noticed how women bond together over this topic? Very Red Tent of us!
